CLAIM

It is not a gainsay that some states government has made plans to reopens schools in their state in September. In relevance to school reopening, there’s a claim which states that, the Kogi state government is said to reopen schools at all levels in the month of September. In a post made by KCEE Media Concept on, Tuesday, 1st of September 2020, it claims that ”Kogi schools reopens September”. The news has also flooded social media.

ROUND CHECK FINDINGS

According to the news published on Premium Times on August 6, 2020, the news platform reported that the Kogi state government fumigate schools ahead of resumption. According to Premium Times, the fumigation was done in preparation of the August 10 resumption date for students in exit classes. “Even before the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 gave the protocol to be observed in reopening schools, Kogi was already prepared”- Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, told Premium Times.

Pulse.ng reported on Tuesday 1st of September, 2020 that ‘‘Kogi reopens schools in September”. The news platform reported the Kogi government has told schools in the state to resume fully after five months. ‘‘ Kogi’s commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, said on Tuesday September 1 schools can reopen from September 14”, www.pulse.ng reported.

Thenationonlineng.net also published on Tuesday September 1, ‘Kogi Schools reopens September. The news platform also confirm the claim that Schools in Kogi state reopens in September 14. ‘‘The Kogi State Government has announced the reopening of schools from primary to tertiary levels for September 14, 2020.”, Thenationonlineng.net reported.‘‘ According to him, the government arrived at the decision after a series of interactions with relevant stakeholders and assessment of private and public schools to ascertain their level of preparedness and safety for reopening”, The Nation went further in their news report.

CONCLUSION

This claim is true. The commissioner of Education, Science and Technology in Kogi state on behalf of the state government announced on Tuesday September 1, that schools at all levels will reopen September 14.
