Claim

A broadcast message has been circulating on WhatsApp claiming that Bovas Oil and Gas Company is recruiting both skilled and unskilled labour with good salary payment.

ROUNDCHECK got the claim on November 3rd, 2022, with a malicious link ( https://lyupz.com/BOVAS-OIL-AND-GAS-RECRUITMENT-PORTAL2023).

Established in 1980, Bovas Group started its operation as an indigenous independent petroleum marketing company. BOVAS Group opened its first service station in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, in 1991 and has now expanded to other states.

On the link provided in the claim, applicants are requested to fill in their personal information in the form. The link redirects to another webpage, changing the URL and we noticed that an individual can access the next page without filling in the form.

After filling out the form, applicants are requested to share the link with 5 groups or 15 friends on Whatsapp until a green verification bar provided on the form is filled. When we completed the process, there was neither command to process or book any interview nor was mail sent, even after 48 hours.

We observed that a click on the “PROCEED” button redirects to another webpage that publishes articles about fake employment opportunities and scholarships (https://betterlife.flashtunez.xyz/).

Meanwhile, with the aid of Scamadviser, a platform that gives in-depth information about the website, ROUNDCHECK extracted more information about the website.

Scamadviser rated the website 47/100, revealing that the page is linked to suspicious websites hosted by companies with a bad reputation, and a high number of suspicious websites on this server, amongst other negative highlights.

ROUNDCHECK thoroughly searched the website of BOVAS company, but there is no post calling for recruitment. Meanwhile, the company had debunked a similar fake claim in circulation.

We have also warned that any link with the URL ‘www.lyupz.com’ is fake and malicious. The link is usually attached to posts related to jobs and scholarship adverts.
