ROUNDCHECK, a youth-led organisation dedicated to fighting the spread of fake news, is embarking on a mission with its volunteer network to ensure its efforts are realistic. As part of this mission, the organisation is calling for applications for its 3rd Cohort of the volunteering network to help minimise the spread of fake news in our society.

In an interview with Faith Alofe, the Head of the ROUNDCHECK Volunteer Network, she emphasised the need for everyone to be equipped with intellectual resources to fight and limit the spread of fake news. The organisation has already trained over 50 volunteers and aims to expand its volunteer network further.

When asked about the expectations for the forthcoming 3rd cohort, Alofe stated, “I am hoping that the new intakes will help fight the disease of fake news through the knowledge they gain from volunteering with us.”

The impact of ROUNDCHECK’s volunteer network has been significant, with over 50 individuals trained to become fact-checkers. Some have become staff writers and researchers for ROUNDCHECK and other fact-checking organisations.  Some members of The volunteer network have had to engage in several partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, which directly impacts ROUNDCHECK and the people they have trained.

“The 3rd Cohort of ROUNDCHECK’s volunteer network program comes with lots of training from experts, mentorship, and internship opportunities. For those interested in joining, the organisation has provided a link to check the application procedure,” Alofe concluded.

Volunteers will be exposed to tools, resources, and adequate training that would help them effectively join in the fight against misinformation.

Application runs from march 17th – 30th.
