CORRECT: Ondo State And Its LGAs Receive Sum Of N23.4 Billion As Federal Allocation In Nov, Dec 2022

Claim

post making rounds on Twitter has claimed that the Ondo State Government and its local government received a sum of N23.4 billion as federal allocation for the month of November and December 2022.

The claim posted by a Twitter user, @UrbanAlert on March 13, 2023, has gathered 14 likes, 11 retweets, and 2 comments as at last checked.

The full claim reads:

“Are you aware that the Ondo state Government (@OndoStateGov) and its local Governments received a sum of N23.4 billion as Federal Allocation for the months of November and December 2022?”

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is the nation’s agency in charge of the development and management of official statistics and is considered the authoritative source and custodian of official statistics in Nigeria. NBS is simply the official body of the Nigerian government that gives statistics information on the country.

Urbanalert is a non-governmental platform that identifies, investigates and alerts the authorities on social issues that affect the masses and also report the outcome of government decisions to the general public.

Also, an infographic was attached to the post attributing the source of the claim to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicating that Ondo State and its local governments received a total of  N15.3 billion and N8.1 billion respectively.

We checked the claim.

ROUNDCHECK Findings

ROUNDCHECK  checked through the NBS portal and discovered that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed the total amount of N957.09 billion for the month of November 2022.

The Federal Government received a total of N293.95 billion from the N957.09 billion, States and Local Governments received a total of N239.51 billion and N177.09 billion respectively for November 2022.

N26.23 billion was shared among the oil-producing states from the 13% derivation fund which Ondo State is part of.

In November 2022, Ondo State received the sum of N 6.4 billion and its local governments received N3.8 billion which means Ondo State and its local government’s overall allocation for November 2022 was N10.27 billion according to NBS.

In December 2022, The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed the sum of N1.18 trillion to the three tiers of government in December 2022 from the total revenue generated in November.

The Federal Government received a total of N358.51 billion from the N1.18 trillion, States and Local Governments received a total of N272.48 billion and N202.49 billion respectively and the sum of N68.57 billion was shared among the oil-producing states from the 13% derivation fund.

In December 2022, Ondo state received N8.8 billion and its local governments received N4.3 billion. This means Ondo state and its local government’s overall allocation for December 2022 was N13.1 billion.

For both months, the Ondo State Government received separately the sum of N15.3 billion and the local governments received N8.1 billion. Ondo and its local governments, therefore, received a sum of N23.43bn as Federation Allocation for the month of November and December.

Verdict

The claim that the Ondo State Government and its local government received a sum of N23.4 billion as Federal allocation for the month of November and December 2022 is CORRECT.
