(This message was added in version 6.7.0.) in /home/roundch1/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6114A viral post circulating on WhatsApp claims that the National Examinations Council of Nigeria (NECO) results are out and students can check their results using an attached link (https://all-free-byt.org/neco-2024).
ROUNDCHECK investigated this claim and found it to be incorrect.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
The National Examinations Council (NECO) is an examination body in Nigeria that is responsible for administering the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the General Certificate of Education (GCE). These exams are conducted annually in two sessions: June/July and November/December.
Using ‘e.Veritas,’ a web link verification tool, we discovered that the website attached to the widely circulated post phishing posed a threat to students’ personal and sensitive information.
Phishing is a kind of online scam where cybercriminals attempt to trick individuals into providing sensitive information, like usernames, passwords, credit card details, or personal identification numbers.
Furthermore, we subjected the link to another website verification tool, EASYDMARC, which revealed that the link has a high-security risk level, indicating critical vulnerabilities in Sun Protection Factors(SPF), DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC).
This means that the website poses a threat to users.

Additionally, when we clicked on the link, it prompted a notification SMS (Dear Candidate, Your NECO Result is out, Kindly press OK to check now), indicating further that it is not the authentic NECO website.
We checked the official NECO website and found that the link provided differs from the one circulating on WhatsApp.
Moreover, there is no mainstream media report indicating that the link or website to access the 2024 NECO result has changed. The correct NECO website is neco.gov.ng while those who want to check their results go through www.results.neco.gov.ng.
Verdict

The link claiming to provide access to the 2024 NECO result is incorrect and poses a phishing threat.
EDITOR’s NOTE: Students are advised to beware of this link and only access their results through the official NECO website as stated in this report.
]]>The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah had claimed that the university is number one in Nigeria.
The VC made the claim on November 21, 2023, during the ‘official unveiling of the UniAbuja publishing complex’ at the Faculty of Agriculture Lecture Theatre, University of Abuja Main Campus.
Prof. Na’Allah said: “If our president [Bola Ahmed Tinubu] is the number one citizen in Nigeria, the University of Abuja is the number one university in Nigeria. We are number one. Nobody can compete with us. You cannot be in Ibadan or Nsukka, or ABU, or Dutsin-Ma, and compete with UniAbuja. It is impossible.”
The microphone of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) can be seen on the lectern, suggesting that the event, which was also live-streamed on the university’s Facebook page, was covered by reporters.
The video has been liked and shared by over 200 people.
Established in 1988, UniAbuja is the only federal university in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
It began academics with three colleges namely: College of Arts and Education; College of Law, Management and Social Sciences; and College of Science and Agriculture.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
ROUNDCHECK notes that the universities the Vice Chancellor referred to in his address were; the University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) respectively.
The tertiary institutions were established in 1848, 1955, 1962, and 2011 respectively. UI was the pioneer university in Nigeria.
Research shows that global organisations conduct ranking of universities worldwide using different metrics. Some of the longest-established and most influential global rankings are those produced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE) and Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, publisher of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings features 1,500 institutions across 104 locations and is the only ranking of its kind to emphasise employability and sustainability, the global rating organisation said on its website.
“This year, we’ve implemented our largest-ever methodological enhancement, introducing three new metrics: Sustainability, Employment Outcomes and International Research Network.”
The Times Higher Education, on the other hand, noted on its website that it “creates university rankings to assess university performance on the global stage and to provide a resource for readers to understand the different missions and successes of higher education institutions.”
“Our rankings cover the three main missions of university activity: research, teaching and impact.”

Also, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy recognised the following Nigerian universities on its website; UI, University of Lagos; University of Ilorin; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; UNN, ABU, and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
Verdict

Findings show that the University of Abuja is NOT the number 1 university in Nigeria, by global and national rankings. Hence, the VC’s claim is unfounded and misleading.
]]>A report published on This Day live on the 7th of October 2022 by Victor Ogunje, claimed that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ekiti State University Chapter, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), has finally broken away from the nationwide strike declared by the National body.
The headline of the story reads “Ekiti Varsity ASUU Finally Suspends Strike, Matriculates 4,000 Students”, with the image of the university (EKSU) on the front page.
The report says:
“Indication that the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti(EKSU), has finally broken away from the nationwide strike declared by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) emerged yesterday as the institution matriculated 4,000 new students.”
EKSU ASUU
ASUU EKSU is the Ekiti State Varsity Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and has been on strike since the commencement of the industrial action embarked upon by the national body.
ASUU And The Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) university staff as a successor to the Nigerian Association of University Teachers which was founded in 1965, was formed in 1978 to cater for the interests of all academic staff in Federal and State universities in Nigeria.
ASUU embarked on an industrial action on Feb 14, 2022, owing to the Federal Government’s refusal to meet their demands, including issues relating to the funding of universities and lecturers’ salaries and allowances.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
According to a press release by the Registrar of EKSU, Ife Oluwole, on the 21st of August 2022, he said that the university is set to resume both academic and administrative activities following the results of the stakeholders’ meeting that was held on Sunday 21st of August 2022.
A part of the press release states, “accordingly, all newly admitted students for the 2021/2022 academic session should also resume on Monday, August 29, 2022, for screening, registration, and orientation program.”
However, ASUU EKSU made a press release days after in response to the University stakeholder’s resolution encouraging the national body to continue with the ongoing strike until the government does the needful.
When sourcing for more information, ROUNDCHECK visited the EKSU website. On the 21st of September, 2022, the Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, published an information regarding EKSU resumption.
According to the published report, students were informed about the commencement of academic activities which would take effect on Thursday, 22nd September.
“Therefore, round off lectures and examinations for the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session had been scheduled to run through September and 5th November when examinations would end.”
EKSU VC Vs ASUU
On the 21st of September,2022 also, The Vice-Chancellor, PROF E.O Olanipekun, sent out a press release appealing to all staff unions on campus to resume work.
In the press release, the VC solicited the staff union’s total support to resume work and round up the ongoing 2nd semester of the 2020/2021 academic session.
Sixteen days (14) after, approximately 2 weeks, ASUU EKSU broke the silence and responded to the VC’s appeal in a press release signed by the chairman, Dr. Kayode Arogundade.
The press release made on Wednesday, 5th of October 2022, and titled ASUU EKSU’s position on University Administration’s request for commencement of Academic Activities, analysed the reasons ASUU EKSU are with the national struggle and how it is for the survival of Tertiary Education in Nigeria.
The press release ended with a resolution that states:
“Going by the above analysis and quality of governance enjoyed at both state and federal levels in Nigeria. It is out of place for a University like EKSU, that had benefited immensely and continuously from the National Struggle of ASUU to thinker with breaking the national struggle for whatever reasons.”
Hence, EKSU-ASUU is yet to suspend the ongoing strike as they indicate support for the national body in the ongoing industrial action.
Although the claim that EKSU has resumed is incorrect, the university indeed matriculated new students on Friday, 6th of October, 2022.
We also gathered that registrations are ongoing at the university. But this does not represent the EKSU chapter of ASUU suspending strike (as at the time of this report).
Verdict

The claim that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ekiti State University Chapter, Ado Ekiti (EKSU) has finally suspended its strike is INCORRECT.
All information and documents gathered showed that the chapter (as at the time of this report) is still in support of the national body in the ongoing industrial action pending when the Federal Government will yield to their demand.
]]>Adeyemi Samuel Afolayan, a writer for Campus News on the 28th of September 2022 claimed in a report that the Zaria varsity, Ahmadu Bello, shuns the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) Strike and announced a resumption date.
The report reads:
“The management of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, wishes to inform members of staff and students that the 7 months old lingering strike which commenced on the 14th of February 2022, has been called off and staff and students are expected to resume their offices and classes respectively.
“Staffs are expected to resume office on the 10th of October , 2022 and students to resume classes on the 17th of October, 2022. The school is committed to adhering to instructions from NUC and as such has re-opened the university for learning and all other academic activities.”
Ahmadu Bello University
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria is a federal government research university in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. ABU was founded on 4th October 1962, as the pioneer university in Northern Nigeria. It was founded and named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.
ABU has been on strike since the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) embarked on an industrial action owing to the Federal Government’s refusal to meet their demands, including issues relating to the funding of universities and lecturers’ salaries and allowances.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
In a bid to verify the claim, ROUNDCHECK spoke to the Varsity’s Student Union President, Jibril Idris Kawuje, who tagged the report as fake. Another student of the University, Salihu Muhammed Ambassy informed us that the institution is yet to resume or announce a resumption date. “It’s a big lie, Disregard this information,” He said.
Verdict

The claim that Ahmadu Bello University has shunned the ASUU strike and announced a resumption date is Incorrect. ROUNDCHECK can confirm that as at the time of this report, Ahmadu Bello University is yet to announce a resumption date.
]]>Claim
A Facebook post by “Opportunity Hanger” which was made on June 9 2022 has been circulating online with the claim that Omega Power Ministry (OPM) is currently awarding international scholarships to Students for 2022.
At the time of this report, the post has generated 4700 likes, 2000 comments, and 298 shares. ROUNDCHECK checked the claim and found it to be false.
About OPM
Omega Power Ministry is a Christian denomination with its headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. It was founded in 2006 by Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chiyere. The ministry has been helping the poor and “less-privileged” in society.
Amongst some recent notable alleviation of the ministry is the rescue of the parents of the murdered student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, and the rehabilitation of Keneth Aguba a Nollywod actor after the discovery of his homelessness.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
A click on the link Shows a graphic design with the image of the general overseer of OPM Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere.
A further search on the website gives more insight into the process of how to apply. According to the website, candidates who wish to apply are required to send their WAEC results to a specific mail address.
It also stated that those who wish to apply offline are to visit the OPM headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
ROUNDCHECK also made use of Scamadviser to get additional information about the website.
Scamadviser revealed that the website looks “likely to be legit. Trust rating is high” which presents an uncertain revelation on the website.
ROUNDCHECK checked the verified Facebook page of OPM for further analysis. A disclaimer about the scholarship details was posted on the page. The disclaimer was posted on August 6 2022 to distance OPM from the false claim.
OPM warned that the scholarship being circulated online is not real, tagging it “419 post” and did not emanate from the ministry.
Verdict

The claim stating that OPM is awarding international scholarships for students in 2022 is INCORRECT.
]]>University of Alberta, Canada, removes Nigeria from the list of other countries whose students must present IELTS & other English tests before admission.
What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System better known as IELTS is an international standardized test for the English Language.
IELTS was developed by a team of experts to test individuals that want to study or migrate to English-speaking countries such as the US, UK, Canada et al; the ability to write and speak in English before being given admission.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
On Saturday, the 4th of June, 2022, a Twitter user @JonalistIsreal had tweeted that “a Nigerian man, Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi wrote to the University of Alberta, Canada, asking them to remove Nigeria from the list of countries whose students must present IELTS & other English tests before admission.”
With a claim that the University of Alberta has granted the request and Nigeria has been exempted from the list.
“The school has granted the request. Not all heroes wear capes.” The tweet reads.

In less than two days of sharing the information on Twitter, it has generated 477 Quote Tweets, 11.4 Retweets, and 42 Likes, showing that the information has reached out to thousands of people both online and offline.
Checking the comments under the tweet reveals that almost all the people that reacted to it believed the information is true. While others believe it is a way of chasing the clout.
A Twitter user @ONCLEpete tweeted that “this is wonderful news. As it should be, I find it unreasonable to adopt English as my official language and then write a test on it. DOC I just hope the UK, our so-called colonizers would adopt the same.

While @Cadjourney “believe this at your own risk, why lying Doc? Nigeria has always been on the list, this is a big fat lie just to gain more followers and likes, do you even have an idea this false claim could put you into big trouble??? Let’s be mindful of how we deceive our followers biko”

In another tweet, @omotaigga tweeted that “you either didn’t read (to completion) or comprehend what was tweeted, in your eagerness to do whatever it is you intended to do with your tweet. All the best ṣá!”

Contrary, @ProfEmiele tweeted to underscore that Nigeria was not part of the country when he first applied earlier this year and insisted on the people discrediting the good work of Mr. Muyiwa stop that they stop.
“I applied to Ualberta earlier this year and was asked to confirm if my University was one of those exempted from the English proficiency test; though some Nigerian Universities were there, ‘NIGERIA’ was not part of the exempted countries then. STOP DISCREDITING HIS GOOD WORK!!!” – the tweet reads.

The mixture of comments from different people as to whether the news is true or false hence, the need to fact-check.
Further Analyses
ROUNDCHECK assessed Dr. Muyiwa Twitter account, @olumuyiwaayo, it was discovered that he had sent an email on Sunday, May 22, to the University of Alberta and requested that Nigeria should be exempted from submitting English proficiency tests.

While he got feedback that in the meantime, Nigeria would be added to the list of countries in which English is the official language of instruction.

According to the tweet, “About 2 weeks ago, I initiated a request via email, Linkedin, and Twitter to the graduate school of the University of Alberta asking that applicants from Nigeria should be exempted from submitting English proficiency tests.”
“I followed up with a reminder on Monday and as of today, I am happy to inform you that Nigeria has been added to the list of countries in which English is the official language of instruction. All the best to applicants!
Together, we can achieve a lot!!!” – part of the tweet reads.

A keyword search on google to see whether the information has made it to media outlets in Nigeria, clearly shows that Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, a Nigerian postdoctoral research fellow in Canada, recently got the University of Alberta, Canada, to exclude Nigerian students from its English language requirement, on Premium Times.
Also, a visit to the university website officially announced that Nigeria has been recognized by the University of Alberta and added to the list of countries in which English is the official language of instruction.

Conclusion and Verdict
Though the name of Nigerian universities that would be exempted from the English proficiency test (a system used to test an individual’s ability to write and speak in English) has not been added to the second category at the time of writing this report.
ROUNDCHECK findings revealed that the tweet claiming the University of Alberta, Canada, has removed Nigeria from the list of countries whose students must present IELTS before admission is TRUE.

IN SUMMARY
On Monday, 23rd of May 2022, several posts were in circulation on WhatsApp media channel, from the Directorate of Information to ASUU-EKSU Chairman and the students, spreading it beyond their WhatsApp groups to other media platforms.
The narrative of the post reads that the management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti at its meeting held on Monday, 23rd May, 2022, discussed the impact of the ongoing national strike as it affects the university and decided to re-open the institution for normal activities with effects from Tuesday, 24th May 2022.
Noting that the impact of the protracted strike has dragged down the university with academics and other necessary activities.
While students received the news with mixed reactions, ASUU-EKSU Chairman, Dr. K. K. Arogundade urged the public in a counter press release to disregard the news.
“Arising from a special executive meeting of the Academic Staff Union of University, Ekiti State University branch (ASUU-EKSU) on 23rd May 2022, where the current strike action was discussed. It is hereby affirmed that the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) members, Ekiti State University branch is in full compliance with the national strike.
“The instruction handed down by the Vice-chancellor in a meeting with the committee of Deans that all academic staff should resume activities should be disregarded.” the report said.

VERIFICATION
According to ASUU-EKSU executives, a withheld source from the Ekiti State Government revealed that the visitor to the university mandated the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun to re-open the university within 24 hours or forfeit his job.
With claims that this action was a ploy and has a political undertone, parents and their wards were warned of the imminent danger of returning to school, especially as the 2022 Ekiti State election draws near.
A part of the statement reads: “ASUU-EKSU wishes to use the medium to announce to the general public that mandating the re-opening of the University is purely political and EKSG is not ready to attend to the demand of the University.
Also, it is worth noting that ASUU-EKSU Executives Members have been receiving threats from various government agents and the University management.
In view of this, the general public is hereby notified and put on alert to the threats, that if any harm is inflicted on any member of the ASUU-EKSU Executives, the Ekiti State government and University management should be held responsible.
Parents are to monitor the movement of their wards who are the main target to be used as thugs in the coming election hence the resumption saga.”
In its defense, the school management via the Directorate of Information, reacted to the statement of ASUU-EKSU, giving reasons for its decision.
“Management wishes to enjoin the leadership of ASUU-EKSU to show understanding as the decision to reopen the University was taken to avert further aggravation of the challenges confronting it and should not be seen as a ploy to undermine the ongoing struggle by the staff unions for the betterment of the university system.”
“As earlier pointed out, the internally generated revenue in the university has continued to dwindle each day the school does not open and if care is not taken, it will get to a stage where the University will not be able to meet up with its obligations.”
“Like the saying goes: “A stitch in time saves nine”; hence, there can’t be any better time than now for the University to re-open its gate for resumption of normal academic activities.” said its correspondent and Head of the Directorate, Bode Olofinmuagun.
CONCLUSION
In an effort to know the possibility of renegotiation between both parties and the resumption date, the ASUU-EKSU Chairman, Dr K. K. Arogundade in his response to ROUNDCHECK via WhatsApp messaging, reiterated the Union’s stand to remain in full compliance with the national strike, saying, “I am sure you have read enough publications from us.”

These recent developments clearly indicate that the school management had not made consultations with the ASUU-EKSU and reached a consensus before directing the reopening of the school.
This show that (Tuesday, 24th May 2022) the date of resumption as contained in a communique released by the Directorate of Information on Monday, 23rd May 2022 is void and the date for resumption is yet undecided as Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti remain closed as at the time of writing this report.
]]>ROUNDCHECK saw a claim on social media directing students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) to resume as academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic session will commence on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

ROUNDCHECK findings
ROUNDCHECK findings revealed that On Thursday, May 19th, management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), instructed students and staff of the institution to resume through a memo sent to students via mail.

The memo titled: CONTINUATION OF THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE 2021/2022 ACADEMIC SESSION, and signed by the institution’s Registrar, Kayode Ogunleye, revealed that academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic session will commence on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Students who spoke to ROUNDCHECK said they received the Memo on Thursday afternoon.
Read the content of the memo below
CONTINUATION OF THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE 2021/2022 ACADEMIC SESSION
Upon the directive of the Visitor to the University, the Management hereby informs all staff and students that the university will continue its academic activities for the first semester of the 2021/2022 Academic session on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
The amended academic calendar for the semester will soon be made available. Staff and students are hereby enjoined to abide with this directive.
On behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.O Liasu, I welcome all students back to campus and wish them a crisis-free semester.

Roundcheck made a call through to the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof Ige Azeez, who confirmed the claim obtained by Roundcheck. He said ” The information is from the management, sure”
Will lecturers resume?
ROUNDCHECK sought to know if lecturers agree with the management’s directive on resumption especially as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is yet to call off its strike.
ASUU was formed in 1978, a successor to the Nigerian Association of University Teachers formed in 1965 and covering academic staff in all of the Federal and State Universities in the country.
ASUU embarked on an Industrial Action on Feb 14, 2022, following the failure of the government to implement various agreements reached with them in 2009.
Their core issues include poor implementation of the re-negotiated 2009 agreement with the union and the government’s insistence on paying the workers through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) instead of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), which the union developed and recommended for the purpose.
ROUNDCHECK spoke to the LAUTECH ASUU chairman, Dr. Biodun Olaniran, via a phone call, he insisted that the lecturers are on strike.
In his words: “Please and please, ASUU LAUTECH is on strike, thank you”, he hung up afterward.
Also the ASUU Ibadan zone coordinator, Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke, while addressing journalists in Ogbomoso on Wednesday, said “LAUTECH branch of ASUU is actively involved in the current 12 weeks roll-over strike alongside our national body is to draw the attention of Federal Government of Nigeria on the need to implement the Renegotiated Agreement which FGN signed with ASUU in 2009.”
Conclusion
The management of LAUTECH has indeed directed students to resume, however, total compliance still looks uncertain as ASUU LAUTECH chairman insisted that the striking lecturers will comply with ASUU’S directives to stay away from the classrooms.

On the 3rd of March, a news blog, Ekohotblog reported that a court in Osun state sentenced Adedoyin and six others to prison.

A Background Into Adedoyin’s Arrest
On November 5, 2021, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Mr. Adegoke reportedly lodged at the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife.
He had reportedly traveled to the university’s town of Ile-Ife to sit for an examination at the OAU Center for Distance Learning, Moro campus, only to be declared missing on November 7, 2021, two days after lodging at the hotel.
The police said Mr. Adegoke was later found to have been murdered and his corpse thrown into a bush.
In the case summary filed along with the charges, the police said the management of the hotel owned by Mr. Adedoyin, as well as his son and managing director of the hotel, Raheem Adedoyin, and some other staff members of the hotel “illegally disposed the deceased’s body and that they also destroyed the CCTV camera in the floor of hotel room 305 to cover up.”
Who is Mr. Adedoyin?
Dr. Rahman Adedoyin Adegoke is a Nigerian businessman, medical doctor, and educationist. He is the founder of Oduduwa University, Ife, and The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife. He’s equally the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
Dr. Rahman Adedoyin was born on January 1, 1957, in Ile-Ife, Osun state to the Akui ruling house in the ancient city of Ife in Osun State.
In November 2021, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin and his workers were arrested by the Nigerian police following the disappearance of Mr. Adegoke Timothy Oludare, 2 days after lodging in his Hilton Hotels and Resorts.
Roundcheck Findings
Roundcheck findings reveal that Ekohotblog’s headline and part of the content are false and contrary to official reports.

The headline here says Adedoyin and six other suspects were sentenced to prison, contradicting the decision of the Osun high court yesterday. The statement is not true.

The sentences in the red box are two conflicting statements. The Green box shows a true statement.
Sentencing And Remand Are Different – Lawyer
A Lawyer, Festus Ogun, who spoke to RoundCheck said both legal terms are different.
“Sentencing implies you’ve been sent to prison after you’ve been found guilty or simply after the conclusion of your case. Remand is keeping one in “remand” (part of prison) pending the determination of one’s case.” He said
Conclusion And Verdict
Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday remanded the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resort, Ile-Ife, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, and six others over the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke.
Rahman Adedoyin and six others were re-arraigned in court yesterday after the case was struck out in Abuja in February and transferred to Osun state following the request of Femi Falana, the Adegoke’s family contracted lawyer.
Adedoyin is being charged with illegal disposing of Adegoke’s body, altering and canceling his payment receipt, and removal of the hotel’s CCTV cameras with intent to destroy evidence.
The Headline and contents published by Ekohotblog saying Adedoyin and the other six suspects were sentenced to prison are false. Adedoyin and the other six suspects were remanded yesterday in Ilesa prison.
]]>CLAIM
According to a news story hovering round the internet, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) President, Mr. Danielson Bamidele Akpan has been impeached. Mr. Danielson was alleged by the Senate council under the leadership of Mr. Gambo Abu Mohammed to have misappropriated of a sum of $200k (#76.2m) meant for covid19 palliative during her emergency virtual meeting.
The impeachment has also brought several questions from people about the decision of the senate council and the act of the President. A claim also has it that the Senate President was expelled by Mr Bamidele
ROUNDCHECK FINDINGS
Roundcheck correspondent, Jeremiah Oluwaferanmi contacted the financial secretary of NANS, Danladi Jonah about Mr. Akpan’s impeachment, he said the situation on ground made him traveled to Abuja and hopefully a communiqué will be sent to the public. He also affirmed that the senate council has the sole right to impeach the president. The financial secretary said he can’t say anything about the impeachment of the president yet.
Mr. Danladi Jonah explained further that it is an allegation and the court has the right to prove him Mr. Akpan innocent or otherwise. When asked about the financial appropriation of the President, he said his office knew nothing about the money and it was stated that he collected bribe which means no record was available.
Roundcheck spoke with university of Abuja student union government president, Oladoja Habeeb, about the happenings in NANS. Mr. Habeeb is one of the Senators in the senate council and chairman of student union presidents. He made us understand that the senate president Gambo Abu Mohammed was never expelled by the president as was said by some people rather it was the president that was impeached by the two-third of the senate council. He said the NANS president doesn’t have the authority to do such according the constitution.
“The majority impeached the president because of misappropriation of funds and Mr. Akpan the president hasn’t spoken about it” said Oladoja.
Mr. Oladoja also said the senate council immediately installed a new president named Chidi Ilugbede.
