Claim 

A  Facebook post by “Opportunity Hanger” which was made on June 9 2022 has been circulating online with the claim that Omega Power Ministry (OPM) is currently awarding international scholarships to Students for 2022.

At the time of this report, the post has generated 4700 likes, 2000 comments, and 298 shares. ROUNDCHECK checked the claim and found it to be false.

About OPM

Omega Power Ministry is a Christian denomination with its headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. It was founded in 2006 by Apostle Dr. Chibuzor Gift Chiyere. The ministry has been helping the poor and “less-privileged” in society.

Amongst some recent notable alleviation of the ministry is the rescue of the parents of the murdered student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State, and the rehabilitation of Keneth Aguba a Nollywod actor after the discovery of his homelessness.

ROUNDCHECK Findings

A click on the link Shows a graphic design with the image of the general overseer of OPM Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere.

A further search on the website gives more insight into the process of how to apply.  According to the website, candidates who wish to apply are required to send their WAEC results to a specific mail address.

It also stated that those who wish to apply offline are to visit the OPM headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

ROUNDCHECK also made use of Scamadviser to get additional information about the website.

Scamadviser revealed that the website looks “likely to be legit. Trust rating is high” which presents an uncertain revelation on the website.

ROUNDCHECK checked the verified Facebook page of OPM for further analysis. A disclaimer about the scholarship details was posted on the page. The disclaimer was posted on August 6 2022 to distance OPM from the false claim.

OPM warned that the scholarship being circulated online is not real, tagging it “419 post” and did not emanate from the ministry.

 

Verdict

Roundcheck incorrect

The claim stating that OPM is awarding international scholarships for students in 2022 is INCORRECT.
