Ahmadu Bello University

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria is a federal government research university in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. ABU was founded on 4th October 1962, as the pioneer university in Northern Nigeria. It was founded and named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria.

ABU has been on strike since the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) embarked on an industrial action owing to the Federal Government’s refusal to meet their demands, including issues relating to the funding of universities and lecturers’ salaries and allowances.

ROUNDCHECK Findings

In a bid to verify the claim, ROUNDCHECK spoke to the Varsity’s Student Union President, Jibril Idris Kawuje, who tagged the report as fake.  Another student of the University, Salihu Muhammed Ambassy informed us that the institution is yet to resume or announce a resumption date. “It’s a big lie, Disregard this information,” He said.

Verdict
