Claim

A media report circulating online claim that protesters have been shot dead while others injured in Niger State.

The post seems to have been copied from another online platform, Naija News, who used same image to depict killing of protesters in Niger State.

Using a reverse image search, ROUNDCHECK discovered that a media outlet reported a story using the same image.  The report which was published by Aminiya, the Hausa-language arm of Daily Trust Newspaper reads: “Jami’an Tsaro Sun Yi Harbi A Gidan Gwamnatin Kano,” which translates to “Security Officers Shot At Kano Government House.”

ROUNDCHECK also made use of  Google Map and discovered that the image is the front view of the Kano State Government House and the Coronation Hall adjacent to it.

Verdict

Roundcheck incorrect

The image representation is INCORRECT. The image does not appear to be from Niger State but from Kano State where citizens are currently protesting in front of the Kano government house.
