Less than 24 hours after the findings of ROUNDCHECK on the inactive website of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the site (nbc.gov.ng) is now active and accessible.

On the 22nd of August, 2022, we published a ‘Close Check’ on how the website of Nigeria’s broadcast regulatory body, NBC has been inaccessible to visitors.

NBC is a Nigerian body responsible for the regulations and control of broadcast activities in Nigeria. The commission is a broadcast regulator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. With this mandate, the commission is expected to be active and should grant information to visitors to its site.

As a follow-up, ROUNDCHECK sent the findings to NBC as well as the firm in charge of hosting the website, Galaxy Blackbone- to demand reactivation of the site- via mail.

Galaxy Backbone is a network communications and data hosting infrastructure platform for public and private sector organisations. With headquarters at, 61 Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse Ii, Abuja- Galaxy Backbone commenced operation in 2007 and is led by Muhammed Bello Abubakar, as its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. The organisation was incorporated in 2006 as a public enterprise of the Federal Government of Nigeria to operate.

The Customer Support Services of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Achojo Orumah, responded swiftly to the mail.

“Kindly be informed that this issue is being investigated…Further updates will be communicated to you shortly, ” Achojo replied.

On the 23rd of August, Achojo further notified that the site “is now back online.”

“Kindly be informed that the issue has been resolved and the website is now back online,” Achojo wrote.

Meanwhile, Achojo added that “you need to renew your SSL certificate to avoid a not-secure redirect.”

Following this update, we visited and discovered that the site is now active. However, upon a visit to the website, a ‘preloader’ will pop up but once disabled, the website will be accessible.

ROUNDCHECK can authoritatively report that the NBC website (nbc.gov.ng) is now ACTIVE and accessible to visitors  — at the time of filing this report.Roundcheck Donate
