The image below has gone viral on social media showing the construction of an overhead bridge supposedly from Abia state.
Some of the claims are positing that the project is constructed by one of Nigeria’s governor, Alex Otti of Abia state. This picture has been circulated on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), with the caption that the bridge is part of the achievements of Otti since he resumed office.
A Facebook user named Icute Chi posted the picture on June 23, 2024 with the caption “Abia state longest bridge, This type of bridge will put Abia state in the first position.”

Another Facebook user, Engineer Tobit Obasi shared another version of the post with the caption “INFRASTRUCTURE & DEVELOPMENT: Aba Abia State longest bridge… a true testament of a man that is on a destined mission!!! “This is the work of Alex C. Otti. This type of bridge will put Abia state straight on the map…”
All of these claims are trying to justify that the bridge is located in Abia State and also built by governor Alex Otti. This made us dig deeper to find the source of the image.
As the picture went viral, the authenticity of the picture and the caption became more misleading.
ROUNDCHECK Findings
ROUNDCHECK subjected the picture to a Google reverse image and found out that the image had been published on the internet by the Civil Engineering Discoveries X (formerly Twitter) handle on June 22, 2024.
The X (formerly Twitter) captioned the image as “China bridge construction.”
The claim that the viral image shows the longest bridge in Abia state has been debunked by several fact-checking platforms. Our research revealed that the earliest version of the image on the internet was attributed to China, not Abia state.
Verdict
Despite being shared widely on social media, the claim is INCORRECT.
