On the 3rd of March, a news blog, Ekohotblog reported that a court in Osun state sentenced Adedoyin and six others to prison.

A Background Into Adedoyin’s Arrest

On November 5, 2021, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Mr. Adegoke reportedly lodged at the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife.

He had reportedly traveled to the university’s town of Ile-Ife to sit for an examination at the OAU Center for Distance Learning, Moro campus, only to be declared missing on November 7, 2021, two days after lodging at the hotel.

The police said Mr. Adegoke was later found to have been murdered and his corpse thrown into a bush.

In the case summary filed along with the charges, the police said the management of the hotel owned by Mr. Adedoyin, as well as his son and managing director of the hotel, Raheem Adedoyin, and some other staff members of the hotel “illegally disposed the deceased’s body and that they also destroyed the CCTV camera in the floor of hotel room 305 to cover up.”

Who is Mr. Adedoyin?

Dr. Rahman Adedoyin Adegoke is a Nigerian businessman, medical doctor, and educationist. He is the founder of Oduduwa University, Ife, and The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife. He’s equally the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts.

Dr. Rahman Adedoyin was born on January 1, 1957, in Ile-Ife, Osun state to the Akui ruling house in the ancient city of Ife in Osun State.

In November 2021, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin and his workers were arrested by the Nigerian police following the disappearance of Mr. Adegoke Timothy Oludare, 2 days after lodging in his Hilton Hotels and Resorts.

Roundcheck Findings

Roundcheck findings reveal that Ekohotblog’s headline and part of the content are false and contrary to official reports.

The headline here says Adedoyin and six other suspects were sentenced to prison, contradicting the decision of the Osun high court yesterday. The statement is not true.

The sentences in the red box are two conflicting statements. The Green box shows a true statement.

Sentencing And Remand Are Different – Lawyer

A Lawyer, Festus Ogun, who spoke to RoundCheck said both legal terms are different.

“Sentencing implies you’ve been sent to prison after you’ve been found guilty or simply after the conclusion of your case.  Remand is keeping one in “remand” (part of prison) pending the determination of one’s case.” He said

Conclusion And Verdict

Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday remanded the owner of Hilton Hotels and Resort, Ile-Ife, Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, and six others over the alleged murder of Timothy Adegoke.

Rahman Adedoyin and six others were re-arraigned in court yesterday after the case was struck out in Abuja in February and transferred to Osun state following the request of Femi Falana, the Adegoke’s family contracted lawyer.

Adedoyin is being charged with illegal disposing of Adegoke’s body, altering and canceling his payment receipt, and removal of the hotel’s CCTV cameras with intent to destroy evidence.

The Headline and contents published by Ekohotblog saying Adedoyin and the other six suspects were sentenced to prison are false. Adedoyin and the other six suspects were remanded yesterday in Ilesa prison.
